Will Someone in Armenia Do What Georgia Did to Criminal Authorities?

According to Gurgen Eghiazaryan, founder of the 'Pan-Armenian Armenian' public organization and former deputy director of the NSS, the draft law accepted in the National Assembly in the first reading cannot work in Armenia, 168.am reports.

"I consider this to be a stick in the hands of a person who cannot control himself. The issue concerning criminal authorities is alarming, but the law cannot work, and I understand the votes of BHK (Prosperous Armenia) and LHK (Luys Alliance), who voted in favor of this draft. This opens up the power’s already open hands to reach different people. It will turn out that a person who has that title but has not taken any action is free, while another who has acted must submit to his (referring to Nikol Pashinyan) will, and he will be guided to where he needs to go. Do you understand where this draft is leading when it becomes a law, which it will undoubtedly become?" said Eghiazaryan.

He stated that the claims that a similar law had been adopted in Georgia and that the Georgians had succeeded in the criminal world with this law are unfounded. "For comparison, let me bring a statistic. For instance, in the city of Kutaisi, there were 262 criminal authorities, while in Armenia, there are only around three dozen. In Georgia, those criminal authorities became uncontrollable for the state, so it was decided that if they cannot be governed, they must be controlled, and thus the law was adopted. Of course, after that, terrible things happened; there were awful conditions in the colonies. Will someone in Armenia do what was done in Georgia with the criminal authorities? After the adoption of this law, won’t we have serious problems in places of deprivation of liberty? And will this government be able to solve these problems? I have serious doubts," added Eghiazaryan.
