Guyna Markosyan, a Survivor of the Armenian Genocide, Has Passed Away

Guyna Markosyan, one of the few remaining survivors of the Armenian Genocide who escaped and lived in Armenia, has passed away at the age of 109. This information was reported by Shantnews.am.

Born in Kars, she moved with her family to Eastern Armenia in 1915. During her lifetime, the elderly woman recounted how her family decided to flee to avoid the massacre in Turkey. They crossed the Akhurian River by boat and migrated to Eastern Armenia. Some members of their group drowned in the waters of the Akhurian.

Afterward, Guyna (formerly Nazaratyun, later known by her husband’s surname Markosyan) along with other children found themselves in an orphanage in Gyumri. She later got married and lived in the village of Tatul in Aragatotsn.
