Another Case of Drug Smuggling and Illegal Circulation Discovered
The National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia has revealed yet another case of drug smuggling and illegal circulation by taking measures to identify and prevent illegal drug imports within the framework of its assigned functions in the fight against crime. This was reported by the Press Service of the NSS of Armenia.
Specifically, on November 19, 2019, under the operational control of the national security authorities, a citizen of the Islamic Republic of Iran was apprehended at the "Meghri" customs checkpoint, upon arrival at the "Kilikia" bus station in Yerevan via a Tehran-Yerevan route, and subsequently while getting into a taxi. This individual had smuggled a large quantity of methamphetamine into Armenia, which was discovered by NSS employees.
A criminal case has been initiated in the Investigative Department of the NSS of Armenia concerning the apparent criminal offense under the relevant article of the criminal code. The detained foreign national has been arrested, and factual data has also been obtained regarding his previous illegal drug imports and distribution activities in the Republic of Armenia.
The investigation is underway.
