Tense Situation: Patients at Nubarashen Mental Health Center Go on Hunger Strike
A tense situation has developed at the Republic of Armenia's Ministry of Health's National Center for Mental Health in Nubarashen, particularly in the 7th ward, for over an hour. More than 50 patients have declared a hunger strike to demand that the hospital administration urgently take measures to allow patients in the special regime ward to receive packages from their relatives.
This was reported by shamshyan.com. In a phone conversation with the source, a man who identified himself as the brother of actress Shushan Tovmasyan stated: “Our relatives bring us food, but the hospital staff does not allow us to receive meat and hot dishes. They say we can only receive fruits and sweets. We do not like the food served here; many patients are left hungry, and we are not asking for much—just to allow us to receive the meals brought by our relatives.”
The citizen further mentioned that patients are on hunger strike and are ready to go on a water strike if the issue is not resolved. “Moreover, some sanitarians are provoking us to forcibly inject us with certain medications. We have already informed the Office of the Human Rights Defender and are awaiting their visit to resolve the issue,” he added.
