Neurosurgeons in Yerevan Prevent Stroke Risk with Prolonged Surgery

The Rector of Yerevan State Medical University, Armen Muradyan, shared on his Facebook page that neurosurgeons successfully prevented a stroke risk through a complex surgery lasting over five hours.

At the Specialized Center for Neurosurgery and Stroke Treatment of the "Heratsi" Hospital Complex No. 1, neurosurgeons Sevak Badalyan and Lernik Grigoryan recently performed a successful clipping of an aneurysm of the anterior communicating artery via an open surgery.

At the beginning of the year, a woman was brought to the "Heratsi" Hospital Complex No. 1 by an ambulance due to a suspected stroke, where she was diagnosed with a rupture of the aneurysm and hemorrhagic stroke. Neurosurgeons Sevak Badalyan and Lernik Grigoryan managed to perform an endovascular obliteration of the ruptured aneurysm with microcatheters, saving the woman’s life.

Subsequently, after several months of periodic dynamic monitoring, it was discovered that the aneurysm continued to grow, posing a risk of re-rupture. Given this situation, it was decided to perform a clipping of the aneurysm's neck through the open surgical approach shown in the images. As a result of the nearly five-hour surgery, the aneurysm's neck was successfully clipped, and it can no longer be a cause of a stroke.

The woman's condition is good, and she will soon return to her normal life.
