Live: Protesters Demanding Araik Harutyunyan's Resignation Dance in Front of the Ministry
Protesters demanding the resignation of Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Araik Harutyunyan continue their sit-in. A press conference by members of the initiative demanding the minister's resignation is scheduled to take place shortly.
It is worth mentioning that protests have been ongoing for several days, involving students from the Yerevan State University’s Department of Armenian Philology, as well as representatives from the Armenian Revolutionary Federation Youth Union.
The demand for the minister's resignation is primarily based on the controversial performance titled “HuZank u Zang,” for which the Ministry has allocated 2,700,000 dram, as well as the new bill proposed by the ministry that aims to make the subjects of “Armenian Language” and “Armenian History” non-mandatory in universities.
Many lecturers from Yerevan State University have also initiated a warning strike. They state that they do not demand the resignation of Araik Harutyunyan; however, they oppose the Ministry’s bill that would make “Armenian Language” and “Armenian History” non-mandatory in higher education institutions.
