Tovmasyan Has Taken the Constitutional Court Hostage: Armen Grigoryan
During the government session on November 14, the issue of the Constitutional Court crisis was also discussed. This was stated by the Secretary of the Security Council, Armen Grigoryan, during a briefing with journalists.
“Hrayr Tovmasyan has taken the Constitutional Court hostage and is creating restrictions so that we can implement the democratic principles declared in the Constitution, which are vital for the country's development,” noted the Security Council Secretary.
When asked why Tovmasyan's actions are now being recalled, Grigoryan pointed out that discussions about the Constitutional Court are not new; it has always been a topic of conversation. He did not disclose any details about the decisive steps that would be taken, only stating that these steps are multifaceted.
Grigoryan reminded that during the constitutional amendments in 2015, Tovmasyan had claimed that they were making changes to the Constitution to make the country more democratic and that there were no reproduction issues on the agenda. “History has shown that this Constitution was written for reproduction, and within that framework, Tovmasyan received his share. Serzh Sargsyan, while advancing as prime minister, created a crisis in the country, which resulted in the revolution. Tovmasyan received his share, but there are principles that have not been implemented,” stated Grigoryan.
According to him, one of the principles of the constitutional amendments was that the 9 members of the Constitutional Court should be nominated based on the following principle: three candidates must be nominated by the President of the Republic, the government, and the Judicial Council. This principle has not yet been implemented.
