Italy Declares State of Emergency Due to Venice Flooding

Italy has declared a state of emergency today following the flooding in Venice. Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte announced that the government will provide urgent measures and resources to recover from the damage caused by the floods.

According to Sky News, the Italian government aims to construct a barrier to protect against high tides to prevent such disasters in the future. Due to the flooding, 80 percent of the UNESCO World Heritage city was submerged.

This is the worst flood to hit Venice in the last 50 years. On November 12, the water level reached 187 cm. As previously reported, the flood also affected the island of San Lazzaro in Venice, where the foundation of the Armenian church has been submerged.
