Yerevan's 2020 Budget to Increase by 23.8 Billion Drams, Expenditures to Rise by 25 Billion Drams

The budget for next year is set to witness a significant increase. In 2019, revenues were projected at 83.2 billion drams, while the expected revenue for 2020 is 107 billion drams. Importantly, the share of the city’s own revenues is also noticeably rising. The expenditure segment for 2020 will amount to 116 billion drams, up from around 91 billion in 2019.

Deputy Mayors Haik Sargsyan, Tigran Virabyan, and Sergey Harutyunyan are detailing Yerevan’s 2020 budget draft and its main programmatic directions, according to the press service of the Yerevan Municipality.

Among the major projects is the introduction of a new model for greening the city, for which 3.6 billion drams is allocated from the budget. Next year, the municipality intends to increase funding to address the resettlement issues of residents living in buildings categorized as fourth-degree emergency.

For yard improvement, a proposal suggests allocating 1.5 billion drams from the budget. In 2020, there are plans to raise the salaries of employees in art and music schools, as well as sports schools. Funds will also be allocated to create opportunities for admitting more children to kindergartens.

In the healthcare sector, the municipality has several major programs in place. Polyclinics will be renovated and equipped with necessary devices for ultrasound and ophthalmological examinations.

The budget draft will be presented for public discussion, and discussions among council factions are set to take place in December.
