Tavros Sapeian Involved as Suspect in Karakert Shooting Incident

Member of the Yerkrapah Volunteer Union, Tavros Sapeian, voluntarily presented himself to the Armavir regional investigative department today, November 11, and was interrogated regarding the incident that took place in Karakert on November 7. He has been involved as a suspect, and a restriction measure of a signature not to leave has been selected against him. This information has been provided by the investigative committee's press service.

On November 7, 2019, at approximately 14:30, a resident of the village of Aragatsavan in the Aragatsotn region reported to the Baghramyan police department that around 12:00 on the same day, in front of the "Talin" construction company located in the administrative territory of Karakert village, the Sapeian brothers from the village of Aşnak, as well as the sons of his uncle, had quarreled with him, physically assaulted him, and one of them shot a firearm resembling a Winchester into the air and three times directed at him.

A criminal case was initiated at the Baghramyan police department based on Article 258, Part 4 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia, which has been forwarded to the investigative committee's Armavir regional investigative department for further investigation. The resident of Aragatsavan has been recognized as the victim and interrogated regarding the incident.

According to preliminary data, on the day of the incident, the four Sapeian brothers, along with another resident from the Aragatsotn region, egregiously violated public order, displayed blatant disrespect towards the society, and used violence, delivering blows to the resident of Aragatsavan, during which one of the Sapeian brothers fired shots from a firearm at him, although they did not hit him.

As a result of investigative actions carried out, it was revealed that T. Sapeian, one of the brothers, fired shots from a 12mm caliber hunting rifle of the "MAVERICK" model registered in his name. Two shell casings / containers of a hunting rifle were discovered at the scene of the incident. During the preliminary investigation, several investigative actions have been undertaken, including seizures, interrogations, confrontations, and searches in the apartments of the quarrel participants, during which the hunting rifle used as the weapon of the crime was submitted to the prosecuting authority.

The preliminary investigation continues as urgent measures are being taken to clarify all the circumstances of the incident. The Armavir regional investigative department of the RA Investigative Committee is taking necessary investigative and procedural actions to clarify all circumstances regarding the case of committing hooliganism against the resident of Aragatsavan using a weapon.
