Regrets: Haik Hovhannisyan Not Resigning
Today, during the meeting of the Supreme Judicial Council, the issue of Council member Haik Hovhannisyan's resignation was discussed. At the request of other Council members, Mr. Hovhannisyan also attended the meeting. For about two hours, the reasons for his resignation were debated.
In the context of judicial reforms, Mr. Hovhannisyan presented the programs and ideas that he believes should be prioritized. Specifically, the discussions focused on the need for budget planning within judicial bodies, deep reforms in the organization of the Judicial Department's work, the implementation of electronic justice, the establishment of median deadlines for cases based on type and complexity, as well as increasing judges' involvement and organizing their communication with the public.
As a result of the lively discussions, all members present at the Council deemed the issues raised to be of profound and primary importance. It was noted that for the successful implementation of already initiated and planned works, it is crucial for Haik Hovhannisyan to remain and continue his work alongside his colleagues in the Council.
All members present at the meeting urged their colleague not to insist on his resignation, considering that there are no significant disagreements on key views regarding radical reforms in the judicial system.
Mr. Hovhannisyan did not insist on his resignation and continues to serve in his position, according to the Supreme Judicial Council's statement.
Interestingly, the reasons behind Haik Hovhannisyan's emotional turmoil have sparked speculation. According to one theory, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's indifference led to his rejection for the position of chairperson of the Supreme Judicial Council.
