Education Minister's Departure During Yerevan State University Anniversary Session is Disrespectful, Says Apoyan

Students at Yerevan State University are determined to call for the resignation of the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, Arayik Harutyunyan. Even after a conversation with the Prime Minister, they have not changed their stance and will continue their fight, stated David Apoyan, president of the university's student council, in a conversation with reporters.

“The minister has indeed shown many shortcomings during his tenure. When he left the hall midway through the 100th-anniversary session of YSU, it was the greatest act of disrespect towards the mother institution. Furthermore, we see many issues in the education sector,” he said.

David Apoyan also emphasized the need for autonomy for universities. “We will try to understand the position of all YSU students. There is already a strike at the Faculty of Armenian Studies and History. This phenomenon may positively 'infect' other faculties as well,” he added.

When asked when the student council would officially announce its position regarding the class strikes and the demand for the minister's resignation, David Apoyan noted that it would be after discussions.
