Over 24,000 Cubic Meters of Water Used; More than 3.5 Million Drams Not Transferred to Budget

According to information received by the Corruption and Economic Crimes Prevention Directorate of the Police, there are factual data indicating that pursuant to a decision made by the Byurakan community council in January 2014, a local fee of 150 drams was established for providing drinking water service from the community’s daily regulation reservoir to legal entities and individuals owning land plots in the area. This was reported by the Police.

However, the community leader, driven by personal interests, has misused his official position in contradiction to the interests of the service and has reached verbal agreements regarding water consumption with organizations operating within and outside the Byurakan community.

According to the investigation’s current findings, between 2014 and 2019, these organizations consumed more than 24,000 cubic meters of water, for which over 3 million 600 thousand drams were not transferred to the Byurakan community budget, resulting in significant damage to the community.

A criminal case has been initiated regarding the incident, and it has been sent to the investigative committee for further investigation. The circumstances are being clarified.
