«Hraparak». The Istanbul Convention Poses a Serious Threat to National Security
«Hraparak» newspaper reports that following a closed discussion in the National Assembly last week regarding the Istanbul Convention, the issue was also addressed during a recent meeting of the ruling Civil Contract party, attended by the Prime Minister.
Some MPs have noted that the convention harbors "insincere" and "masked" intentions. Prime Minister Pashinyan suggested organizing an extensive debate once everyone has read the convention.
According to our sources within the ruling party, the protection of sexual minorities' interests in this case is the lesser of two evils. The fact is that the convention explicitly states that upon ratification, Armenia would be obliged to grant asylum to anyone presenting themselves as a victim of violence, such as from Iran, Azerbaijan, or other countries where minorities are persecuted.
“And that is a serious threat to national security,” our source said.
