Shenavan Village Mayor and His Brother Arrested

The Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia has revealed the circumstances surrounding the abduction of a 27-year-old resident of the Armavir region. Two individuals have been arrested in connection with the incident.

According to preliminary information, on October 26, 2019, a 27-year-old resident of the Armavir region reported to the police that he had been abducted and beaten. Following this incident, the Armavir Regional Police Department initiated a criminal case under Article 131, Part 2, Subsection 2 of the Armenian Criminal Code, which was then sent to the Armavir Regional Investigative Department for further investigation.

The 27-year-old has been recognized as a victim and has been interrogated regarding the incident. During the preliminary investigation, several investigative actions were conducted, including searches, confrontations, and the questioning of multiple witnesses to ascertain various circumstances and motives surrounding the incident.

It has been established that the individuals involved in the abduction of the 27-year-old young man include two brothers aged 39 and 43, who, through their 37-year-old acquaintance, lured the victim out of his house supposedly to look at a car he was selling. However, on the way, they forcibly removed him from the vehicle and transported him to a nearby village's fields, where they, along with two friends who joined them on the way, physically assaulted him.

In the framework of the criminal case, the brothers have been charged under Article 131, Part 2, Subsections 1, 2, and 3 of the Armenian Criminal Code, as well as under Article 118. The investigator has submitted a motion to the court requesting their arrest, which has been granted. Another individual has been involved as a suspect, for whom a travel ban has been imposed.

To clarify significant circumstances of the case, a forensic examination has been ordered. The investigation is ongoing, and efforts are being made to ensure an objective, comprehensive, and multifaceted examination of the incident, verify the circumstances pointed out in testimonies, and individualize the actions of the participants while providing a legal assessment.
