Armenia Ranked Among the Top 3 Countries with Significant Progress in 2019, Says Pashinyan
The Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, has addressed the annual report released by Freedom House on his Facebook page.
“Freedom House, an international human rights organization, has published its annual report on internet freedom, which indicates that Armenia has made unprecedented progress and shares the 8th position with France. According to the report, Armenia is one of the three countries that registered the greatest progress in 2019. I would like to remind that in 2017, Armenia was among the countries with partially free internet. In 2018, following a non-violent, velvet, popular revolution, Armenia entered the ranks of countries with free internet, occupying the 13th place, but lagged behind Georgia in the region. This year, we are leading in the region and have secured a place among the leading countries in the world.”
“The authors of the report note that 'the positive changes in Armenia, which began with the Velvet Revolution in 2018, are continuing. The restrictions on content have decreased, and violations of internet users' rights have diminished. In particular, violence against online journalists has decreased, and digital media have gained greater freedom from economic and political pressures,'” Pashinyan wrote.
