Pyunik's Midfielder Erik Vardanyan Apologizes to Fans
Erik Vardanyan, the midfielder of the Armenian national team and FC Pyunik, has apologized to fans for an incident that occurred during the 12th round of the Armenian Premier League match against Ararat.
“Dear football fans, I would like to express my regret regarding the incident that took place during the match against Ararat in the 12th round of the Armenian Premier League. In the 67th minute of the game, Ararat defender João Victor committed a foul against me, which went unanswered by the main referee until I was forced to retaliate with a foul myself. I understand that referees are human and can make mistakes or respond late to situations, but in this case, the delayed response had negative consequences,” Vardanyan wrote on his social media page.
“I do not wish to justify my actions. Regardless of what happened, I should not have reacted in such a manner to the referee's whistle. It was also wrong what occurred on the way to the locker room and subsequently on social media. I respect the fans of the official Ararat fan club. My gesture had nothing to do with you. I apologize to all those involved in the incident and to all football fans,” he added.
It is noteworthy that Erik Vardanyan has been suspended for 6 months for insulting and pushing the referee during the match with Ararat, as well as for hitting and damaging the door leading to the locker room on his way off the field, engaging in unsportsmanlike conduct and inappropriate behavior.
