Incident Near Republic Square Metro: Young Man Attempts to Douse 'HuZank u Zang' Participants with Green Paint
An incident occurred near the Republic Square metro during the ongoing performance of ‘HuZank u Zang,’ which was accompanied by shouts of 'shame, shame' from several individuals. A young man attempted to spray green paint on the participants of the performance, declaring that he was targeting 'Satanists'.
‘There will be no satanic phenomenon in my country. I will fight; you can arrest me as much as you want. I will pour green paint on them,’ shouted Narek Sargsyan, the young man involved.
The police detained him at the scene. Those opposing the performance brought appropriate equipment, played Armenian national music, and began to dance.
According to the organizers, ‘HuZank u Zang’ is a performing arts project that synthesizes contemporary dance with the rhythm of poetry. The performance is a research/experimental reinterpretation of 1920s futurist poetry (by Kara Darvish, Gevorg Abov, and Azat Vashtuni) with interventions from Lilith Petrosyan’s original poetry and the geographic scope of Hasmik Tangyan’s forward-looking movement.
The project questions the public perception of women's behavior, speech, and movement. The performance has been created in collaboration with German visual and performance artist Linda Nadji, who is currently in Yerevan. The project is implemented with the support of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports of Armenia.
