The 'Contemporary Classics' Composer Festival Kicked Off with a Concert Dedicated to Tigran Mansuryan
The 'Contemporary Classics' composer festival has brought legendary composers from our time, such as Tsigan Chen, Krzysztof Penderecki, Alexei Shor, Georgs Pelecis, Alexander Tchaikovsky, and Karl Jenkins, to Yerevan from various countries around the world. They will be joined by the beloved maestro Tigran Mansuryan.
According to Armenpress, the festival started on November 1 at the Aram Khachaturian Concert Hall. It was dedicated to maestro Tigran Mansuryan: Mansuryan's Cello Concerto was performed by renowned Italian cellist Mario Brunello. 'I have performed Mansuryan's concerto many times, but this is the first time I am presenting it in Armenia, which makes me very happy. I love the Mansuryan style of speaking through music,' Brunello said.
Tigran Mansuryan mentioned that this is a unique event in the field of Armenian music. 'I am happy that my long-time friend Alexander Siranyan's daughter, Shushan Siranyan, will perform one of her compositions, and Mario Brunello is a master of the cello. I have been waiting for a few years for him to come to Armenia and perform here. Finally, it has happened,' the composer noted.
Throughout the festival, which will run until November 9, renowned composers' works will be performed by the acclaimed pianist Boris Berezovsky, violist Yuri Bashmet, violinists Gidon Kremer, Ning Feng, cellist Mario Brunello, France-based violinist Shushan Siranyan, and many other musicians.
The festival has also united several Armenian collectives. World-renowned soloists will perform alongside the State Symphony Orchestra of Armenia, the Armenian National Philharmonic Orchestra, the Armenian National Academic Choir, the choir of the Yerevan Vocal and Singing School, and the choir of Ayb School. The concerts will be conducted by conductors Sergey Smbatyan, Eduard Topchyan, Karl Jenkins, and Krzysztof Penderecki.
The 'Contemporary Classics' composer festival is organized by the State Symphony Orchestra of Armenia and the European Cultural Foundation for Support. The festival is being held with the support of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports of the Republic of Armenia.
