It is More than the Right Time for the Recognition of the Armenian Genocide by the USA, Says Adam Schiff

According to U.S. Congressman Adam Schiff, it is more than the right time for the United States to recognize the Armenian Genocide, especially now when the Kurds in Syria are suffering from Turkish attacks. Schiff expressed this view during the discussion of a resolution recognizing the Armenian Genocide in the U.S. House of Representatives.

“It is always the right time to recognize the Armenian Genocide, but especially today,” said Schiff, adding that when they see how the Kurds in northern Syria are suffering from Turkish bombs.

He emphasized that the fact of genocide is horrific and undisputed among historians. “It was recorded by American diplomats serving in the Ottoman Empire at the time, who witnessed the destruction of the Armenian population in the Ottoman Empire, a crime that at that time had no name. There was no doubt that they were eyewitnesses to a crime on an industrial scale,” he said, noting that it was only later that Raphael Lemkin, a Holocaust survivor, created the term genocide to describe the atrocities witnessed by Jews, as well as Armenians.

Schiff noted that he has met men and women who survived the genocide, whose numbers are decreasing year by year. According to the congressman, denying genocide is, on the other hand, an abomination, as it provides an opportunity for new killings.
