Polluted Water Flowing into Voghji River from Operational Small Hydro Power Plant Tunnel: HBC
The Armenian Environmental Front initiative has reported that on the evening of October 27, residents of Kapan noticed that polluted waters were once again flowing into the Voghji River.
“To identify the source of the pollution, residents went to the site of the accident that occurred on October 17 at the ZPMP’s tailings pipeline. Everything seemed normal there, but it was discovered that the polluted water was flowing into the Voghji River from the tunnel of the small hydro power plant operating in that area. The hydro power plant had decided to clean its tunnel, filled with tailings due to the accident at ZPMP’s tailings pipeline, which caused yet another pollution incident in the Voghji River. A question arises as to whether these actions were coordinated with state authorities, and why they were carried out under the cover of darkness,” the HBC stated.
