Gagik Harutyunyan Interrogated
Former President of the Constitutional Court Gagik Harutyunyan was interrogated as a witness at the Special Investigative Service (SIS) on October 24.
His questioning coincided with that of former National Assembly President Ara Babloyan, who, it should be noted, has the status of a suspect in this case. The former high-ranking officials were interrogated within the framework of a criminal case being investigated under Article 300, Part 1 of the Armenian Criminal Code, which pertains to the usurpation of power.
According to the SIS statement, Arsen Babayan, the deputy head of the National Assembly staff and a defendant in the same case, created conditions based on false grounds to take control of the powers of the Constitutional Court. This was allegedly done to publicize a statement about Ara Babloyan's submission of Gagik Harutyunyan's resignation as the president of the Constitutional Court on March 2, 2018, which in turn served as the basis for terminating his powers and later nominating and appointing Hrayr Tovmasyan to that vacant position.
