Without Gagik Harutyunyan's Testimony, Ara Babloyan Could Not Have Been Involved

According to the 'Zhoghovurd' newspaper, it is reported that former National Assembly President Ara Babloyan is likely to be charged today under part 1 of Article 300 of the RA Criminal Code (usurpation of power).

The issue arises from the official information that former Constitutional Court President Gagik Harutyunyan had submitted a letter of resignation from his position, which would take effect upon reaching the age limit of 70 on March 23, 2018, addressed to Ara Babloyan. The charge states that Babloyan, allegedly before having officially received the resignation request, unlawfully signed it and publicly declared Harutyunyan's resignation.

It is perhaps not difficult to deduce that without the relevant testimony from Gagik Harutyunyan, Ara Babloyan could not have likely been implicated in this matter. It is hard to say whether the former National Assembly President will be arrested or not, but he will certainly have to provide testimonies, which is beyond doubt. In that case, it will become clear who was the legal advisor for Babloyan, a pediatrician by profession, in this matter. If it was Hrayr Tovmasyan, he will have to confess that in his testimonies. At that point, bringing charges against Hrayr Tovmasyan will become a technical matter.
