Parliament Approves Bill Allowing Citizens to Record Traffic Violations
The National Assembly today approved a controversial bill in its second reading, which allows citizens to document traffic violations committed by other citizens' vehicles. The majority of those opposing the bill were from the Bright Armenia faction. The vote was distributed as follows: in favor - 83, against - 24, abstained - 3.
During the first reading, representatives from this faction hinted that the bill is aimed at 'giving work' to certain individuals. One member stated that the bill lacks morality as it pits people against each other, suggesting that many will start pursuing and documenting the violations of others.
During the second reading, co-author of the bill, My Step faction MP Sisak Gabrielyan, noted that to address these concerns, they would provide the government with the authority to limit the ability of one individual to submit reports on another citizen’s vehicle.
This raised complaints among the MPs from the My Step faction.
