Man Embezzles 5,100,150 Dram but Takes No Steps to Secure Employment

The Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia reports that the investigation into a case of particularly large-scale fraud has been completed in the Investigative Department of the Arabkir administrative division in Yerevan. Charges have been brought against a 32-year-old man.

As a result of investigative actions conducted during the pre-trial process, it was established that from May 26, 2017, to the end of June 2017, the 32-year-old man, with the preliminary intent to commit fraud by stealing someone else's property, exploited the trust of his 40-year-old acquaintance. He expressed his willingness to organize her employment as a doctor in the Federal Republic of Germany, for which he demanded and received a total of 5,100,150 AMD in parts. However, he did not take any action to secure her employment, instead, he fraudulently embezzled this amount for illegal, gratuitous, and profit-making purposes, causing particularly large-scale property damage.

Furthermore, having learned that the 40-year-old woman's friend, born in 1977, was unable to return the borrowed money to her, with the initial intent of failing to meet his promises, he, under the pretext of assisting in the recovery of the borrowed funds, obtained an additional 400,000 AMD from her in July 2017, through deception. He also failed to take any action to return this amount, causing substantial property damage.

Based on the sufficient combination of evidence, the 32-year-old man has been charged under Article 178, Part 3, Clause 1 and Article 178, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia. A signature not to leave has been selected as a preventive measure against him. The completion of the investigation has been announced, and the criminal case has been sent to court with an accusatory conclusion.
