“I have acted according to the requirements of the law and the Constitution,” said former National Assembly President Ara Babloyan in an interview with 168.am, responding to the news of being involved as a suspect in a criminal case under investigation by the Special Investigative Service (SIS).

Ara Babloyan noted that he was questioned yesterday in connection with the case. “I was taken out of surgery yesterday, taken for questioning, and after that, I returned and continued the surgery,” said Babloyan. He did not provide any further details, noting that the preliminary investigation is ongoing. “As long as the process is ongoing, we do not have the right to speak about anything,” he added.

It is noteworthy that earlier, the press service of the SIS announced that Ara Babloyan has been involved as a suspect in the criminal case regarding the suspicion of usurpation of power, and Arsen Babayan has been charged under Article 38-300, Part 1, and Article 314, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia. Babayan is accused of having assisted a group of officials in usurping the powers of the Constitutional Court while serving as the acting deputy head of the National Assembly staff in 2018, as well as committing official forgery.
