Yura Ivanyan Had No Interest in the Amulsar Case, Says Chief of Investigative Committee

The former head of the investigative team for the Amulsar case, Yura Ivanyan, has been found to have had no interest or connection regarding the Amulsar issue as a result of a service investigation. This was stated today by the head of the Investigative Committee of Armenia, Hayk Grigoryan, during a conversation with reporters.

“The results of the service investigation are already known, and Ivanyan had no connection related to Amulsar. As for Ivanyan being appointed to a new position, the issue is that there have been several structural changes in the Investigative Committee by government decision, and his position has simply been renamed. He remains in the same position,” he said.

In response to the observation that it was announced that Ivanyan and former Minister of Environment Aramayis Grigoryan have family ties, Chief Grigoryan replied that the Criminal Procedure Code defines the family ties that require a person to declare a conflict of interest. According to the head of the Investigative Committee, the degree of relation between Ivanyan and the former Minister of Environment is not among the restrictions, and thus there is no legal issue.

When asked why the criminal case initiated regarding Amulsar has not been resolved, Grigoryan stated that there is no resolution issue, as the criminal case is a dynamic process – new data can emerge today that were not available yesterday.

It is noteworthy that after Ivanyan, the head of the investigative team for the Amulsar case was appointed as Deputy Head of the Investigative Committee Arsen Ayvazyan. He recently informed reporters that new data related to the Amulsar criminal case has emerged and new individuals have been interrogated.
