Yerevan State Medical University Rector's Lawsuit Against Arsen Torosyan Accepted for Proceedings

The lawsuit filed by Armen Muradyan, the rector of Yerevan State Medical University, against Health Minister Arsen Torosyan has been accepted for proceedings. This information has been obtained from the Judicial Information System.

On October 14, the judge of the Yerevan General Jurisdiction Court, Grigori Vardanyan, decided to accept the lawsuit for proceedings. A date for the hearing has yet to be set.

It is noteworthy that Muradyan demands the retraction of defamatory statements made by Torosyan and compensation for damages. The lawsuit was submitted on October 2.

Recall that on September 3, after his failed press conference, Torosyan stated in a Facebook live broadcast that the campaign against him was orchestrated by Armen Muradyan: "These theatricalized events are not a personal initiative of Gevorg Tamamyan, but have been organized by Armen Muradyan, who was given his position as a gift by the previous authorities and is terrified that he might lose it under the current government. Once being a friend of well-known people and an acquaintance of notable families, he has gradually climbed the career ladder and is now the rector of the medical university."

"He believes that we pose a very great threat to his current office. All of this began a year ago when we wanted to change the composition of the university's council by removing representatives of the previous authorities and making new appointments, and since then, the campaign against me has started. They elected as the council president a person (referring to songwriter Vahan Artsruni) whose connection to medicine I have no idea about. They say he has a familial connection with the founder of the medical university, Artsruni, but I am not sure of that," added Muradyan.

In response, Armen Muradyan accused Arsen Torosyan of lying and presented an episode of the conversation between him and the minister, which related to the operation of the “Soldier’s Home” center. According to Muradyan, during a discussion held a year ago, Torosyan used an unacceptable phrase. "There were 50 people with disabilities and 50 would die with disabilities; why have you spent so much money?" said the minister, after which our conversation was interrupted, and generally, no side can have any connection at all," Muradyan elaborated.

It should be mentioned that Torosyan has denied the account presented by Muradyan. The head of the YSMU staff also announced that Muradyan will be suing Torosyan.
