France and Armenia Have a 3000-Year Friendship: France's Ambassador in Armenia to Trump
France's ambassador to Armenia, Jonathan Lacôte, humorously commented on U.S. President Trump's statements about the shared history of the United States and Italy dating back to ancient Rome in a Facebook post.
“As Yerevan celebrates its 2801st anniversary, it’s high time to remind that France and Armenia have enjoyed a 3000-year friendship that dates back to the times of the Urartian Empire,” Lacôte wrote.
It’s worth recalling that Trump made such remarks during a meeting with the Italian president. A video of that meeting circulated on social media, gaining notoriety thanks to the unusual expression on the translator's face. Memes emerged online suggesting that the translator was reacting to Trump's nonsensical remarks.
Later, it became clear that she was simply trying to listen attentively to the words of the presidents. The White House also confirmed via a tweet that Trump spoke about the shared cultural and political heritage of the United States and Italy, tracing its roots back to ancient Rome.
