Will Hrayr Tovmasyan Be Imprisoned?
According to the newspaper "Pasti", yesterday the Special Investigative Service of Armenia announced that based on a report submitted by a member of the National Assembly to the Prosecutor General of Armenia, a decision has been made to initiate a criminal case under Article 300, Part 1 of the Criminal Code of Armenia.
The case pertains to Hrayr Tovmasyan's election as a judge of the Constitutional Court. Investigative actions have already been carried out in the Republican Party of Armenia and the Constitutional Court. Furthermore, even the National Security Service summoned Tovmasyan's 75-year-old retired father and two daughters.
Considering that legal and legitimate grounds to achieve Tovmasyan's resignation have not been found, sources from the newspaper claim that a decision has been made to initiate a new criminal case against him at any cost, preferably on corruption-related charges.
Through this, the authorities aim to resolve several issues at once. Firstly, they will present Hrayr Tovmasyan as a “corrupt individual” to the public and attempt to discredit him. Secondly, they will create grounds for his imprisonment, which would result in the suspension of his powers both as a Constitutional Court judge and as the President of the Constitutional Court.
