Sharmazanov Does Not Exclude the Arrest of Hrayr Tovmasyan
Those who benefit from the current state of the country are those who find it advantageous for the weakening of Armenia and Artsakh. This was stated by Eduard Sharmazanov, the spokesperson for the Armenian Republican Party, who is participating in the ongoing protest in front of the National Security Service (NSS) building.
It should be noted that the protest is initiated by lawyer and human rights defender Ruben Melikyan, who is co-founder of the "Legal Path" NGO, against the actions directed at the President of the Constitutional Court Hrayr Tovmasyan and his family.
Wishing a good service to the police surrounding the NSS building, Eduard Sharmazanov emphasized that he is present to speak in defense of the Constitution, justice, and to express support for Hrayr Tovmasyan.
According to him, the ruling regime mixes politics with legal processes, and has associated legal proceedings with Tovmasyan's family. Sharmazanov noted that what is happening greatly resembles the times of Beria, Yezhov, and Yagoda. "I officially declare: we will do everything to ensure that there is no return to the year 1937," promised Sharmazanov.
Commenting on the accusations of seizing power against Tovmasyan, Sharmazanov called it laughable. He stated that if such accusations are deemed justified, then similar accusations should be made against Nikol Pashinyan, Ararat Mirzoyan, and others. "Hrayr Tovmasyan was chosen through the same procedure through which Nikol Pashinyan became Prime Minister," Sharmazanov pointed out.
"Forgive me for being blunt, but all those who do not bow to the regime face persecution," he noted, adding that as history shows, tyrants settle scores with those who carry out their whims. "Do not let them use you," Sharmazanov called out, adding that the Constitutional Court is the only institution that does not dance to Pashinyan's tune.
Eduard Sharmazanov also commented on the resignation of NSS Director Arthur Vanetsyan, who recently received general-lieutenant stripes from Pashinyan. "He received the insignia and diagnosed: stand up and come to your senses," Sharmazanov remarked. Regarding the summons of Tovmasyan's father and daughters to the NSS, the spokesperson for the Republican Party noted that this is the style of the regime's work: "A year ago, they were attacking our families." Sharmazanov predicts that the regime will intensify its attacks, stating, "We will resist. We, specifically I, am ready to fight. Tens of thousands will not surrender. We will fight using all legal methods—unlike Pashinyan," Sharmazanov promised.
As for Hrayr Tovmasyan's future, Sharmazanov did not rule out the possibility of his arrest. "They can arrest Tovmasyan, well, also me, you too—for asking such questions. Everything depends on the order. If Nikol Pashinyan gives the order, tomorrow the entire parliament will praise Hrayr Tovmasyan with drums and pipes," Sharmazanov noted.
