Erdogan Says He Will Not Forget Trump’s 'Disrespectful' Letter

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has stated that he will not forget the 'uncivilized' letter received from U.S. President Donald Trump, but noted that this issue is not currently on the agenda. This was reported by Hurriyet News.

Trump wrote to Erdogan on October 9, the day Turkey launched its operation in Syria, urging him not to be a fool and not to disappoint the world.

“Of course, we have not forgotten Trump's letter, which has nothing to do with courtesy. But our mutual respect does not allow us to keep this issue on the agenda. It is not a priority for us. However, when the time comes, the necessary actions will be taken,” Erdogan said in his speech in Istanbul.

It is worth noting that following negotiations between U.S. Vice President Mike Pence, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, and President Erdogan on Thursday, an agreement was reached regarding a ceasefire in Syria. According to the statement, Turkey will suspend its military campaign in Syria for 120 hours to allow Kurdish forces to withdraw from the security zone being established near the Syrian border.

On October 9, Turkey announced the start of Operation 'Peace Spring' in northern Syria, aimed at combating the 'PKK' and the 'Islamic State' terrorist organization. On the same day, Turkish aviation carried out strikes on Ras al Ain and several other towns along the border.
