Charges Laid Against Minor Brother in Police Murder Case on Four Counts, Other on Two

The investigation conducted by the Investigative Committee of Armenia's Kanaker-Zeytun administrative district has revealed several circumstances surrounding the attack on police officers.

Charges have been laid against two brothers born in 2003 and 2001.

Earlier, it was reported that on October 16, officers of the Armenian police were taken to the "St. Grigor Lusavorich" medical center. Tigran Arakelyan, born in 1981, was diagnosed with "biological death, gunshot wound to the left arm," and A. Hakobyan, born in 1994, was diagnosed with a "laceration wound to the top of the skull."

In the criminal case initiated regarding the incident, several details have been clarified, including the identification of individuals suspected of committing the crimes, who are brothers born in 2003 and 2001.

According to the data obtained during the investigation, on October 16, around 03:40, while performing their duties, the police officers noticed two individuals near the entrance to the "Victory" park. Upon seeing the patrol car, the two fled the scene. The police officers pursued them and apprehended them on Freedom Avenue. The detainees attempted to escape, during which one of them grabbed a weapon attached to one of the police officers, struck A. Hakobyan on the head, and shot Tigran Arakelyan in the left arm, who later died from the injuries sustained.

The investigative actions established that the fatal injury to Tigran Arakelyan's body and the blow to A. Hakobyan's head were caused by the 2003-born individual.

The investigation also revealed that the brothers had committed theft hours prior to the incident, stealing from one of the beauty salons in the Arabkir administrative district and hiding the stolen items under one of the bridges.

With sufficient evidence obtained, the 2003 born minor was charged under Article 104, Part 2, Clause 2 of the RA Criminal Code, Article 316, Part 2, Article 238, Part 3, Clause 3, and Article 177, Part 2, Clauses 1 and 3. The 2001 born brother was charged under Article 316, Part 1 and Article 177, Part 2, Clauses 1 and 3.

The investigator has submitted a motion to the court to choose imprisonment as a measure of restraint against them. The preliminary investigation is ongoing.
