Minor Who Killed Policeman Admits Guilt, Expresses Sincere Regret
The brother suspected of killing 38-year-old police officer Tigran Arakelyan from the Arabkir Police Department has admitted guilt and expressed regret for his actions. The information was shared with Armtimes.com by the 16-year-old suspect's defender, Ferdinand Sargsyan.
“He admits to the charges brought against him, acknowledges that such a situation occurred, does not deny it, has even cooperated with the preliminary investigation, and has sincerely expressed remorse. I just came from his case. In essence, he stated that he had no intention of taking the policeman's life at all,” said the public defender.
When asked if he also admitted guilt regarding the theft, the lawyer responded affirmatively. He declined to provide details about the investigative actions conducted, only noting that at this stage, his client holds the status of a detainee, and the prosecuting body has not yet submitted a motion for pre-trial detention.
It should be noted that the brothers were near “Victory” Park last night when police officers noticed them. Seeing the patrol car, the brothers tried to flee. The police pursued them and apprehended them on Freedom Avenue.
The arrested individuals put up resistance. During the confrontation, one of them seized a service firearm from one of the police officers and shot at another, also striking another officer with the firearm's grip. The criminals fled the scene.
Due to a gunshot wound to the upper left arm, police officer Tigran Arakelyan, 38, died.
As a result of the measures taken within the criminal case initiated by the RA Investigative Committee, it was established that the brothers had committed theft from one of the beauty salons in the Arabkir administrative district just hours before the incident, which is why they attempted to escape from the police.
After the incident, they were found at their home in the village of Proshyan, taken into custody, and arrested. A service weapon belonging to the police officer was discovered at the suspects’ residence, which was used by the younger brother, the 16-year-old, to fire shots at the 38-year-old police officer and strike the other officer on the head.
