Investigation Launched to Assess Damage from Pipe Leak at Copper-Molybdenum Plant
The Zangezur Copper-Molybdenum Combine has issued a statement regarding a leak from a pipeline heading to the tailings dump in Arzvanyk.
"Today, on October 17, around 5 a.m., employees of the relevant department noticed a leak from the tailings pipeline and immediately informed their immediate supervisor as well as the person responsible for the sluices. The leak occurred from an upstream pipeline. The damaged 1000mm pipeline was emptied into the reservoir designated for emergency cases, and the entire volume of the mentioned pipeline was redirected to an alternative pipeline. The company’s employees managed to prevent the incident within 30 to 40 minutes. During this time, some leakage occurred from the emergency reservoir into the river. An internal investigation is being conducted to clarify the details of the incident and assess the damage caused by the leak. Information on the incident has been provided to the territorial division of the Republic of Armenia's Environmental and Mining Inspection Body," the statement said.
