Cleaning Works Ongoing in Sevan Today, Says Grigoryan
Following today’s government session, Minister of Environment Erik Grigoryan was also asked questions regarding Sevan. The minister stated that last year the water extraction exceeded 30 million cubic meters more than the 170 million cubic meters planned, while this year the extraction has decreased by the same amount, even though the demand remained the same.
On the other hand, this year’s precipitation has been lower and evaporation has increased, meaning that conditions have worsened compared to last year, despite the fact that water extraction has been significantly smaller.
Grigoryan noted that the water level is currently 4-5 cm higher than last year’s indicator. “Three city wastewater treatment facilities have been studied, and the package has been presented to the government for further steps. The volume of cleaning works this year has been increased, and the funds allocated for this purpose in the 2020 budget are several times larger. Cleaning works are indeed taking place today. The solution to Sevan’s problem is the reduction of sewage inflow and the increase of the water level,” the minister specifically mentioned.
