Prosecutor General's Order Awards Fallen and Injured Police Officers
By the order of the Prosecutor General of Armenia, Artur Davtyan, the police officer of the Patrol Police of the Republic of Armenia, senior officer Tigran Arakelyan (posthumously), who was killed while fulfilling his official duties this morning, and the injured police officer, junior sergeant A.H., have been awarded the "Medal for Strengthening Law and Order" for their bravery shown during the execution of their duties.
Considering the unacceptability of similar displays towards diligent police officers and state officials, the Prosecutor General has tasked the use of the entire prosecutorial toolkit to ensure the comprehensive clarification of the circumstances of the incident immediately after the initiation of criminal proceedings, and to obtain evidence confirming the guilt of those who committed the crime as quickly as possible, in order to impose the strictest penal measures based on it.
The Prosecutor's Office regards such reckless and brazen criminal acts as a blow against itself, deeming any assault of this nature against a state official as intolerable, and even a mere attempt at such an assault unacceptable.
Such acts cannot have any justification and must not only be condemned in the strongest terms by law enforcement bodies and the entire society but also should provoke collaborative measures from state and civil institutions aimed at forming appropriate public conduct in response.
On behalf of the Prosecutor General of Armenia, Artur Davtyan, the Prosecutor's Office deeply sympathizes with the family members, relatives, colleagues, and the entire staff of the Police regarding the tragic loss of Tigran Arakelyan.
