Those Who Think Turkey Will Back Down From Its Path Are Mistaken: Erdogan to Trump

US President Donald Trump has faced criticism from lawmakers for withdrawing American troops from northern Syria and allowing Turkey to launch military operations. In response to Ankara's military actions in northern Syria, the Trump administration is set to impose economic sanctions against Turkey this week.

“We are working with many members of Congress, including Democrats, to impose powerful sanctions on Turkey. The Treasury is ready; additional legislation is needed. There is great agreement on this issue. Turkey has requested not to do such a thing,” Trump wrote on his Twitter account.

Meanwhile, EU leaders may decide to impose an arms embargo on Turkey during an upcoming summit in Brussels. Germany and France have already announced that they will halt arms supplies to Turkey.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has commented on these developments: “Countries completely unaware of everything have gone so far as to call Turkey's legitimate actions an occupation. Although we have been talking about this for months, there are those who threaten us with economic sanctions and arms embargoes. Those who think they can stop Turkey from its path are mistaken,” Erdogan's words were reported by the Ruptly agency.

It is worth noting that fighting has continued in Syria since October 9. Under the name of “Operation Peace Spring,” Turkey has launched military operations in northern Syria, claiming it aims to establish a safe zone free of Kurdish groups along the Turkey-Syria border.
