Armen Sarkissian Meets with Armenian and German Scientists
President Armen Sarkissian received representatives from the renowned German research center "DESY" and its partners, including the "KENDL" Synchrotron Research Institute in Yerevan and the A.I. Alikhanyan National Science Laboratory, at the Presidential Palace today.
During his official visit to the Federal Republic of Germany in 2018, President Armen Sarkissian emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation with Armenian partners at the "DESY" center.
A group of German scientists, led by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of "DESY", Professor Helmut Dorsch, has arrived in Armenia to further deepen the scientific collaboration with their Armenian counterparts. Welcoming the guests, President Sarkissian stated, "Your visit and the size of the delegation demonstrate that we can achieve much more together. You can be fully confident that the Presidential Administration is ready to fully support making the cooperation deeper and more effective."
Professor Helmut Dorsch reported on the outcomes of the visit, noting that two documents have already been signed regarding the expansion of scientific collaboration with the "KENDL" Synchrotron Research Institute and the A.I. Alikhanyan National Science Laboratory.
"We believe that we can expand this collaboration. There are new areas where cooperation can be initiated," he said, particularly highlighting the management of large data volumes as one of the modern challenges. He added that the partnership not only includes scientific collaboration but also has an educational component, with agreements reached with Armenian partners to implement programs for the exchange and retraining of scientists.
Representatives from the "KENDL" Institute and the A.I. Alikhanyan National Science Laboratory also provided information regarding the directions of their collaboration.
The President considered the agreements reached between the German and Armenian research centers to be a significant achievement. "This opens a new path for collaboration in understanding how to manage large data in the new world, and what kind of mathematical calculations should be used for that. It can truly become one of the directions of cooperation in the coming years," President Sarkissian noted, emphasizing the educational component: "Every activity undertaken in Armenia should have two sides. One is research, and the other should be education. They should complement each other."
The President wished success to the Armenian and German scientists, expressing his readiness to support the realization of their initiatives as much as possible.
