Eight Civilians Have Died as Turkey Resumes Bombardment

The Turkish Defense Ministry has released new information about the ongoing "Operation Peace Spring" against Kurdish militants in northeastern Syria. According to a Twitter post, Turkish armed forces continue to move eastward towards the Euphrates River. So far, 181 positions of Kurdish insurgents have come under fire.

In addition to airstrikes, ground forces of the Turkish military have also engaged in combat. It has been noted that during the operation, the Turkish Air Force has advanced 30 kilometers into Syrian territory from the Turkey-Syria border. F-35 fighter jets and tanks are being used in the operation.

International media, including Kurdish outlets, report that there have already been casualties among the civilian population due to the actions of the Turkish army. Turkish media have not confirmed this information. Expert on Turkish-Kurdish conflict Karen Hovhannisyan stated: "Eight civilians have already died. Prior to this, it was officially confirmed that 13 civilians had been killed, three of whom were family members, and two were Christians."

It should be reminded that the military operation against the Kurds started on October 9. Prior to that, the U.S. President announced that if Turkey crossed an allowable limit, Washington would destroy Turkey's economy. The Turkish military incursion into Syria took place when American armed units left the eastern parts of the Euphrates River.
