Political Imprisonments Surrounding You: Kocharian's Lawyer to the Judge

During today’s court session regarding the case of the second President of Armenia Robert Kocharian, the defense team made a statement. Addressing the presiding judge Anna Danibekyan, Kocharian's lawyer Hovhannes Khudoyan noted that two young men, Narek Mutafyan and Sargis Ohanyan, are detained based on a report provided by the judge.

Khudoyan recalled that this incident followed other similar cases involving physical violence against a judge and a Constitutional Court member, yet no assessments were made in those instances. "They are detained based on your report. We see clear discrimination; those individuals are political prisoners. There is a concentration of politically motivated imprisonments surrounding you. We urge you to be consistent in not facilitating political persecution and to deliver justice," the lawyer stated.

Danibekyan remarked that the court records that this statement has no relevance to the current case. The judge's words were interrupted by whistles and shouts from the audience. Some attendees held up placards with images of Mutafyan and Ohanyan, along with the inscription, "innocent detainees." Court bailiffs began to collect the placards from their hands and urged for silence.
