Any Such Incident Can Harm Armenia's International Ranking: Ani Samsonyan

MP Ani Samsonyan from the LHK faction writes:

“Dear colleagues, it is known that an attack occurred against the ‘Hayeli’ media outlet by a group of individuals. In Armenia, the freedom of information and expression is protected. Media professionals and journalists operate freely based on the principles of equality, legality, freedom of speech (expression), and pluralism. Journalists, in fulfilling their professional legal duties as individuals serving the public interest, are protected by the legislation of the Republic of Armenia (Law on Mass Media of the Republic of Armenia, Article 4).

I call for restraint against media outlets and journalists from any encroachments that may harm the journalist's activities, the freedom to receive information, and the free press in general. I also urge law enforcement agencies to remain vigilant and to respond promptly to any incident.

Let me remind you that the international organization 'Reporters Without Borders' published the World Press Freedom Index this year, where Armenia has progressed 19 points on the 2019 scale, moving from 79th to 61st place. Any such incident can harm Armenia's international ranking.”
