US Ambassador Lynn Tracy Visits Armenian National Security Service Border Troops

On October 3, a ceremonial event was held at the border troops of the National Security Service of Armenia, marking the donation of border security equipment provided by the US government. Attending the event were the Deputy Director of the NSS of Armenia, Major General Aram Hakobyan, and the US Ambassador to Armenia, Lynn Tracy. This was reported by the NSS press service on October 4.

Welcoming the guests on behalf of the NSS leadership and expressing gratitude for the assistance from the US government, Aram Hakobyan emphasized the importance of the agreement on cooperation in the field of combating the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction between the governments of Armenia and the United States, noting that its main mission is to counteract the spread of weapons of mass destruction, as well as their associated technologies, materials, knowledge, and expertise.

“The substantial technical assistance provided by the US government to the NSS border troops in the framework of the agreement—through the delivery of equipment, supplies, materials, technology, professional training, and services—will undoubtedly contribute to ensuring border security in Armenia and neighboring countries. We are confident that this material and technical support will be continuous and will enhance the qualitative standards of Armenia's border security,” said Hakobyan.

The commander of the NSS border troops, Colonel V. Sargsyan, emphasized that the efforts made by the US to maintain and strengthen relations between the two countries are greatly appreciated, as the protection of Armenia's borders is the cornerstone of their responsible work.

Expressing gratitude for the reception, US Ambassador L. Tracy said in her speech, “I am proud that the strong friendship between our two countries has improved the security and well-being of the Armenian people. Our developing cooperation year by year in the direction of forming effective regional response capabilities has allowed us to respond to the challenges facing Armenia and the world.”

The provided material and technical support includes mobile laboratories, optical surveillance equipment, signaling devices, communication systems, a technologically advanced English language teaching classroom, all-terrain vehicles, and other technical means. These will directly contribute to preventing the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction and related materials, combating international terrorism, smuggling, and criminality, and managing irregular migration flows.
