Khachatryan's Nephew Will Remain in Custody, Court Rejects Bail Application

Karen Khachatryan, nephew of Gagik Khachatryan, will continue to remain in custody as the Court of Appeals, presided over by Judge Andranik Mnatsakanyan, today rejected the appeal against his detention. This was reported to Tert.am by Karen Khachatryan’s lawyer, Amram Makinyan.

When asked on what grounds the court rejected the appeal, Makinyan stated that he had not yet received the court's decision and therefore was unfamiliar with the reasons for the rejection.

It is important to note that on August 27, 2019, searches were carried out at the residences of former Chairman of the State Revenue Committee of Armenia and former Minister of Finance, Gagik Khachatryan, as well as several individuals closely associated with him. On the same day, following the completion of the searches, both Gagik Khachatryan and Karen Khachatryan were detained by the Investigative Department of the National Security Service of Armenia on suspicion of committing crimes under Article 308, Part 2, and Article 179, Part 3, Clause 1 of the RA Criminal Code (abuse of official position resulting in particularly grave consequences and misappropriation of especially large amounts of property).
