Member of 'My Step' faction seeks to demean a woman, ultimately demeaning himself: Zarouhi Hovhannisyan
Zarouhi Hovhannisyan, a coordinator of the "Coalition Against Violence Against Women" and a human rights defender, commented on Facebook regarding the offensive remarks made by Andranik Kocharyan towards Arpine Hovhannisyan. She stated:
“A man named Andranik Kocharyan permits himself to insult a woman, Arpine Hovhannisyan, by making derogatory remarks about her parents. This individual, who considers himself a champion of justice and an expert on security issues, and moreover, is the chairman of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Defense and Security and a member of the 'My Step' faction, is so devoid of basic legal awareness that he attempts to demean a woman, consequently demeaning himself, the mandate he holds, and the weight of the committee he heads.
The security of the country begins with how protected a person is in that country, including their dignity. What security are we discussing now, if your mindset and methodology lack any relation to legal culture? I simply cannot imagine that in post-revolutionary Armenia, such misogynists operate with such methods to silence public women; this is unacceptable and intolerable.”
It is noteworthy that in one of her interviews, Arpine Hovhannisyan remarked that if there are doubts regarding the legality of the property owned by various officials from the past ten years of governance, then why isn't the legitimacy of the property held by former officials, including Andranik Kocharyan or Gagik Dzhhangiryan, also examined? In response to this observation, Andranik Kocharyan stated, “Arpine Hovhannisyan needs to speak with facts; she can conditionally provide the names of her mother and an unknown father.”
