BHK Has No Connection to Hrayr Tovmasyan's Person: Petrosyan

“No one should try to link us to the President of the Constitutional Court, Hrayr Tovmasyan.” This was stated by Gevorg Petrosyan, a member of the Prosperous Armenia Party, during the discussion of the initiative to deprive Hrayr Tovmasyan of his powers in the National Assembly.

According to him, this issue can only be addressed within the legal framework, which members of the Prosperous Armenia Party have repeatedly emphasized.

“As a lawyer, Hrayr Tovmasyan is capable of defending himself without our assistance... Moreover, I would say that there was a time when H. Tovmasyan interested me as much as bird flu interested Movses Khorenatsi,” Petrosyan stated, noting that Armenian legislation does not mention that a godfather-godson relationship has any legal category.

It is noted that according to the views of “My Step,” one of the grounds for terminating H. Tovmasyan's powers is also that his involvement in the trial of former President Robert Kocharyan has been impossible due to his personal ties with one of Kocharyan's lawyers, Aram Orbelyan, who is his godson. In this regard, it is stated that any judge with legitimate doubts about their impartiality should resign from their powers.

If the parliament adopts the bill, it will be sent to the Constitutional Court. To pass this draft, 80 votes from deputies are needed, which is 3/5 of the total number of members. However, the decision will have a guarantee nature. The final decision will be made by the Constitutional Court with a 2/3 majority.
