Zaruhi Postanjyan's Open Letter to BHK Leader Gagik Tsarukyan
The president of the "Yerkir Tsirani" party, Zaruhi Postanjyan, addresses her questions to the leader of the "Prosperous Armenia" party, Gagik Tsarukyan.
Dear Mr. Tsarukyan,
For several days now, the program "In Front of the Mirror," hosted by journalist Angela Tovmasyan, has not been aired on your "Kentron" television network. There has been public inquiry regarding the reason behind the absence of the program from the broadcast.
Given the significance of this issue, which is driven by public interest, I kindly ask you to clarify:
Given your business acumen and a straightforward calculation, you must accurately have forecasted that the program "In Front of the Mirror" significantly influences the rating of "Kentron" television. What are the long-term consequences for the company and the public of closing this program due to certain political considerations?
If you were asked and urged to shut down the program "In Front of the Mirror," did you once again experience the pressure of authoritarianism in this regard?
Having been engaged in political activity for nearly two decades, you are certainly well aware that especially during tense political periods, the executive power scrutinizes political broadcasts and issues various directives to media outlets. In this context, I ask whether we can exclude the possibility of the temporary suspension of the program "In Front of the Mirror" being linked to this detrimental phenomenon, and confirm that the program will continue its normal operations on "Kentron" television.
Can you issue a challenge to the government, warning that you respect and uphold freedom of speech and journalism?
Today, as Armenian society finds itself once again at a turning point, respect for the right to freedom of speech and the demand for political broadcasts that present dissenting views from the government are more important than ever. Therefore, are you prepared to stand by freedom, which is primarily the right for people to say what they do not want to hear?
