We Had Two Meetings with the President of the Russian Federation, We Are Satisfied and Content: Pashinyan
Since January 1, 2019, we have taken on the presidency of the EAEU, and I believe that the summit held was the culmination of our presidency.
This was stated today by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan during a Q&A session with government members in the National Assembly, answering the question from MP Mikael Zolyan of the "My Step" faction regarding his impressions from the EAEU summit, what achievements were made, and what new opportunities are opening up for our country.
It is noteworthy that yesterday, an expanded session of the Eurasian Economic Supreme Council took place in Yerevan, attended by the leaders of EAEU member countries, including Russian President Vladimir Putin, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, Kyrgyz Republic President Sooronbay Jeenbekov, and Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. The president of the Eurasian Economic Commission, Tigran Sargsyan, is also in Yerevan.
Also attending as invited heads of state were Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. Moldovan President Igor Dodon attended the meeting as the leader of an observer country.
In response to the MP's question, Pashinyan stated that we signed an agreement with Singapore, and from October, a temporary free trade agreement between the EAEU and Iran will come into effect. "I can note that politically, no event of such scale had occurred within the framework of the EAEU, and organizing this event once again proved that we are truly making every effort for the EAEU to become a more effective structure and for our membership to be fruitful. The meetings that took place, the expanded session, contribute to raising the international prestige and attractiveness of the EAEU, and I am glad that the Armenian government has been able to make a certain contribution to this process," the Prime Minister said.
As for bilateral relations, the Prime Minister noted that relationships with all partners will receive a new positive charge: "We had two substantial meetings with the President of Russia, and we discussed the entire scope of our countries' relations for a total of about three hours. Both sides are satisfied; we are grateful, and it remains for our agreements to be consistently achieved by our governments and political teams."
