Political Dialogue on the Resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh Conflict is Halted, Lavrov Says

The political process aimed at resolving the situation around Nagorno-Karabakh has been stalled, and no progress has been made in this direction, according to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. He made this statement while speaking at the 16th international session of the Valdai Discussion Club, as reported by the TASS news agency.

“As for Nagorno-Karabakh, the situation along the contact line has been relatively calm recently, with few incidents occurring, and they are not significant. There has been an exchange of bodies of the deceased, and a small-scale exchange of detainees is being prepared; however, some processes are indeed taking place. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group are working closely with the foreign ministers,” Lavrov stated.

He noted that the situation on the ground is calmer than it was a year ago, but the political process is frozen, and efforts to overcome this deadlock have not yet succeeded. Lavrov emphasized that the parties are making serious statements that do not contribute to creating an atmosphere conducive to a political process. “However, we, as co-chairs, are working together with the Americans and the French, and we have a common vision on this issue. We want to find a solution, which, of course, must be reached through direct dialogue,” Lavrov concluded.
