Discussion on the Proposal to Terminate the Powers of the President of the Constitutional Court in BHK

The leader of the "Prosperous Armenia" faction in the National Assembly, Gagik Tsarukyan, stated during a press briefing that the faction discussed the proposal regarding the termination of the powers of the President of the Constitutional Court, Hrayr Tovmasyan.

“In the previous session, we voted against Hrayr Tovmasyan, considering that he does not meet the requirements for his position and election. Today, looking at the main provisions and the documents, for instance, there are violations of deadlines, and we do not want to proceed with something that is not legally substantiated. There are violations of deadlines, the provisions are incomplete, and the justifications are very weak. Moreover, I want to emphasize to everyone that the decision of the National Assembly does not determine whether Tovmasyan should stay or leave; that decision belongs to the Constitutional Court, which is why we decided not to participate in the voting,” Tsarukyan noted.

When asked whether he sees elements of political persecution against Tovmasyan, he replied, “We do not see anything. The main issue is what we have examined and seen; the main provisions are incomplete, there are violations of deadlines, and today the National Assembly cannot decide whether he should be the President of the Constitutional Court or not; that decision will be made by the Constitutional Court. Therefore, we decided not to participate in the voting.”
